OUTREACH
We hope to reach those who feel isolated after an unexpected life crisis via organizations that support those people.
AWARENESS
Through a targeted social media campaign, we hope to create awareness around therapeutic filmmaking, and create both the training and opportunity for those who want to get involved and become "practitioners" of mindful filmmaking in different settings and locations.
TRAINING: SENSITIVITY COURSE FOR VOLUNTEER FILMMAKERS
Mindful Films has teamed up with hospice expert Richard Deibert to create a sensitivity training for filmmakers and TV producers who want to have a meaningful impact on the lives of others. We periodically hold low-cost trainings around the NYC area to teach production people about working with end-of-life patients, and then send them into local senior centers or hospice facilities to shoot interviews and create short films to contribute to our growing online short film story hive.
FILMMAKING AS HEALING PROGRAMS WITHIN HOSPITALS
We are currently developing a film program to create a short series of films of patients at Columbia University Medical Center's cancer center, and we are developing a long-vision program there in partnership with a nurse/graduate student in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University.
PARTNER FACILITIES
We hope to partner with organizations that work directly with cancer patients, such as Moving For Life, or Gilda's Club.
THE MINDFUL FILM FESTIVAL
One dream for this venture is to create a NYC-based film festival, THE MINDFUL FILM FESTIVAL, that will feature short films on healing and healers, mindfulness, meditation, and human suffering. This is a longview idea that will be developed over the next several years.
grants to filmmakers
We hope to develop a Mindful Filmmakers Grant to be awarded annually to an emergent filmmaker who seeks to explore a Mindful Film topic-- such as loss, grief, health crisis, hope, or healing-- through the creation of a short film. The grant will provide starter funds to the grantee for pre-production, production, and post-production of their short film.
